Scott Sword is a 4th generation Oregonian who was raised on a family homestead near Vernonia.
After graduating from Vernonia High School, Scott enlisted in the US Air Force in 1976. Three years later, he married his wife Holli. They’ve enjoyed 40 years of marriage and raised three successful children.
Scott and Holli came home to Oregon in 1980 where Scott joined the family logging business. While helping grow what is now Sword Logging, Scott began seeking ways to serve his community.
Before being elected Mayor of Vernonia in 1990, Scott served as an advisory committee member for the Vernonia School Board and as a city councilor in Vernonia. Scott stayed active in local civic issues after moving to Marion County in 1994. His service included serving on a variety of committees and councils including:
Silverton Fire Department Equipment Advisory Committee;
Silverton Planning commission;
Silverton City Council;
Willamette Education Service District;
Silverton School District Budget Committee; and
Silverton Library Budget Committee.
In 2001, Scott purchased the family logging business. Since that time, he’s been responsible for the livelihoods of many employees over the years. Scott has continued to stay engaged politically on issues that impact small business, particularly, the natural resource sectors.
With his son Orion now running Sword Logging full time, Scott has decided to once again step up and serve his community by running for State Representative in House District 17.
As a grandfather of four, he’s committed to ensuring Oregon’s schools work for families and meet the needs of students. His extensive background serving as a volunteer for local government boards means Scott will be ready to fully serve his constituents on Day 1 in office.
When Scott isn’t busy with work and playing with grandkids, he and Holli enjoy working together on their property in Sublimity, traveling, and getting in a game of golf when they can.
